Best, or my favourite, and I can't believe I only discovered this one last christmas, is Elvis Presley's "Blue Christmas."

Talking about "last christmas," I'll make that my least favourite.

If you like Carols as I do, take a listen to this one from the choir at St Paul's cathedral, if you look closely, you will spot a young Alistair Cook as one of the choir members.

It finishes with a marvellous descant:

What a great retirement fund Merry xmas everybody is for Noddy Holder and Jim Lea who wrote the song.

I think it earns them about £120k each
every year since they wrote it!

Re: Best and worst Xmas songs
They seem to sound tackier and more annoying every year, especially when played in November.

I like the old American ones - they are less tacky and genuinely happy tunes. Also, the Greg Lake song - I believe in Father Christmas.

I agree that the McCartney one is a dirge. What on earth was he thinking of?!

Re: Best and worst Xmas songs
The original Do They Know It's Christmas purely because Midge Ure wrote it in a couple of days and then recorded/mixed and produced the thing to be played on Radio 1 in 24 hours. Pretty impressive back in a time when technology wasn't what it is now.

Worst - Mariah Carey

It's threads like this that go to show that none of us are wired the same...

Best; Darkness / Christmas Time (and the Greg lake one already mentioned.)

Worst; Lennon's Merry Christmas, War is over (and the Poges/McCall ditty.)
